Fearing the loose of pandavas, Shri Krishna asked Barbarik to give his head to him in 'guru dakshina'. Obeying Krishna, without thinking much, Barbarik cut his neck and gave it to Krishna. Impressed by him, Krishna blessed Barbarik and named him Shyam. The mandir is situated in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. The mandir is made up of lime mortar, marble and tiles. The sanctum sanctrom has its shutters coverd with silver sheets which look spell-boundingly beautiful.
The mandir has a prayer hall named Jagmohan, which is 12.3m long and 4.7m wide. The walls of the great hall have mythological scenes painted on them. The entrance gate, the exit gate and thier brackets are made of marble and feature ornamental floral designs. Along with all these features, the mandir has many many small shops before its entrance. Inside the temple, the idol has only its head and the rest of the body is covered with flowers and garlands. This feature of the mandir makes it only one of its kind in the whole country.Many worshippers of Khatu Shyam Ji , especially the bussinessman, walk to the mandir all the way through Reengus carrying religious flags in their hands. People even believe that the mandir is wish granting.
